If you don't know what that means, let me explain. It's a phrase that comes from the series Code Geass, where the main character, Lelouch, in order to bring peace to the world and stop all wars, paints himself as the bad guy and becomes the enemy of every nation in the world, forcibly taking it over and deliberately becoming the most hated and most dangerous person in history so everyone's hatred is focused on him instead of each other, then arranging to have himself assassinated so that when he's killed, all the hatred of the world dies with him and brings world peace.
It seems like that's what Eren's is trying to do with the Rumbling. This is why he severed all ties with Armin, Mikasa, and all his friends and tried to make them hate him, and is now threatening to wipe out the world. He's already managed to get Eldia and Marley to work together and bring all the world's fear and hatred upon himself (with the exception of his followers). He's already going to die in a few years, so maybe he's using what time he has left to obtain world peace.
Alternatively, it's possible that things are simply what they appear to be, with Eren deciding that he will do absolutely anything to save his friend, and if that means wiping out the whole world except for Eldia since the whole world wants Eldia dead, he's willing to do that. However, this greatly contradicts Eren's character up until now and goes against his value of human life. So it's possible that he's just making it seem like that's what he's doing. But even Armin seems to have figured something out in what Eren's planning. It also seems like his friends are now trying to get to him to stop his plan with the rumbling, but is it to stop him from wiping out the world, or stop his plan of painting himself as the bad guy and sacrificing himself for world peace?
So what do you think? Is he pulling a Lelouch, or is he legitimately willing to do whatever it takes to save his friends and people, including wiping out the world to save Eldia.
This is Eren a short while after he spoke with Armin and Mikasa in chapter 116 - telling Armin he was weak and Mikasa that he hated her. Look at his face. He looks broken. Gabi literally has to say 'hey...' as though he's lost in thought and she needs him to snap out of it to listen to her before she asks about Falco.
What do you think he's thinking? Does he regret what he did? Did he think there was no other way? Is he thinking that they won't forgive him?
THIS INVOLVES MAJOR SPOILERS SO DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T READ UP TO EPISODE 120.
Basically my theory is that when Eren told Mikasa he hated her for always clinging to him because of her Ackerman instincts...
1. He said this to push her away so she wouldn't get in the way of his plans and try to stop him.
2. He wanted to try to get her to break her habit of constantly trying to protect him once and for all because in truth, he desperately wants to be the one to protect her instead but he's never felt strong enough when compared to her.
3. He wanted to let her know that he was hurt to find out that the only reason why she shows that she cares about him (he thinks and I believe he's wrong) is because she is being "controlled" by her instincts and not because she actually loves him out of her own free will.
4. He actually hates himself because he thinks that he is the one who drove her to 'slave' after him and he wouldn't want to do that to anyone, especially Mikasa.
When Armin says "is that the freedom you wanted? The freedom to hurt Mikasa? Who's the real slave...?" You can see from his facial expression that he's about to lose his cool when he says "who are you calling a slave?" He's extremely hurt and not just because of what Armin has just said. He's hurt because he's reminded by Armin of how he hurt Mikasa and although he was the one to call her a 'slave', he can't stand to hear these words coming out of someone else's mouth, which means he wishes that what he's saying isn't true to an extent.
What is your take on this? And do you think we'll get an apology from him? Mikasa removed her scarf and left it behind before battle but she wasn't alone when she did so, another soldier brought this to her attention and Mikasa confirmed that she's leaving it behind. Is this closure for Mikasa to stop following Eren? Will Eren get hold of the scarf himself from the soldier who was with her and realise what he's done when it's all over? I think although the Ackerman instincts make Mikasa strong and protective, I don't think she would be as protective of Eren if she wasnt in love with him. She even tells him "it's because it's you Eren".
