Summary

Jean surprises Marco by asking him if he ever saw a ghost. Marco says he did not and asks Jean why he is interested. Jean claims that he saw a ghost last night that looked like a levitating sheet. Bertolt overhears Jean. Jean insists that he was not scared, and asks Marco if he fears ghosts. Marco says he might have a slight fear, prompting Jean to call him a coward. Amused, Jean calls out to Bertolt. Bertolt tells Jean that ghosts do not exist and that Jean's mind is playing tricks on him. Unamused, Jean tells Bertolt that the instructor is calling his name, in order to get rid of Bertolt.

Alone with Marco, Jean questions if ghosts are actually scary when compared to Titans. Marco admits that Jean has a point, but points out that both are scary in different ways. Marco decides to use an analogy. He asserts that a Titan is scary in the same sense as your father when you know what you have done wrong. He also compares the scariness of a ghost to when you do not know why your mother is mad. Jean does not understand Marco's point.

Connie and Sasha are scared of ghosts

Connie overhears Jean's ghost story, and runs into Sasha screaming. Frightened, Sasha asks Connie for the details, and agrees with Connie that the floating sheet Jean saw was a ghost. Sasha then questions whether a floating sheet ghost is actually scary, due to its lack of hostility toward Jean. Connie lectures Sasha on why all ghosts are scary, causing them both to fear for their safety.

In the boys' barracks, Eren notices that Marco is carrying a bowl of salt. Marco says it will ward off evil spirits, and that he took it from the kitchen. Eren reveals that he got some garlic from the kitchen, prompting Franz to consider borrowing a trinket from Hannah. Eren notices Armin drawing weird symbols on his bed and freaks. Armin clarifies that they are anti-evil spells. Bertolt deduces that everyone is afraid of the ghost.

In the middle of the night, Reiner awakes to someone calling his name. A cloaked individual hovers above his bed, scaring Reiner. Reiner shouts to warn the others, before the ghost reveals itself to be Bertolt in disguise. Bertolt asks Reiner to escort him to the bathroom, but Reiner scolds Bertolt for wearing a blanket over his head. Reiner asks everyone that gathered around if they are scared of the ghost, and they all sheepishly agree. Seeing an opportunity, Reiner hypes up his fellow bunkmates to travel to the bathroom together.

As everyone leaves, Jean laughs to himself over their belief in his fake ghost story. Bored with everyone having left, Jean is surprised when he notices another bunkmate. When Jean asks the bunkmate why he did not go with the others, the bunkmate states that he could not. The bunkmate pulls back his blanket to reveal that a Titan had consumed the lower half of him. Terrorized at seeing a real ghost, Jean runs until he catches up to the others. Marco laughs at Jean's blanched face, and Eren asserts that Jean is the most scared one of them all.
