The Grice family (グライス家 Guraisu-ke?) is an Eldian family living under the rule of the Marley government.

History

Grice was a member of the Eldian Restorationists, a secret organization which had the goal to set the Eldians free from Marley. Along with his fellow Restorationists, he was arrested and sent to Paradis Island after Grisha Yeager's son Zeke reported them. Although he was supposed to be turned into a Pure Titan, he was instead left in his human form to be chased by his titanized comrades.[1]

All Eldian Restorationists sent to Paradis Island had their families implicated as well. Therefore, Colt was forced to join the Marleyan military in order to prove the rest of his family's innocence. Colt's younger brother, Falco, did the same to also protect his family. When Colt was confirmed to inherit the Beast Titan, peace was returned to the Grice family.[2]

Marley arc

Colt brings Falco to safety

Colt saves Falco

During the Fort Slava battle, Falco and Colt are among the Eldian soldiers fighting for Marley. Falco gets a head injury and forgets what is happening around him but is found and rescued by his brother.[3]

At the end of the war, all the Eldians go back home and the brothers see their parents.[4] Falco goes on to unknowingly befriend a disguised Eren Yeager and is tricked into helping deliver letters to his allies.[5][6] Colt is later summoned to the Warriors' headquarters, where he attends a meeting with the current Warriors to discuss the dangerous position Marley's weakened state puts the Eldian people in, and Zeke's plan to resume the attack on Paradis Island.[7] After a month has passed, he attends a strategic meeting to determine how best to strike at Paradis Island. While there, he bears witness to his brother beating Gabi in a sprinting exercise. However, he claims it is too late for Falco to overtake her, for which Zeke mildly berates him. The two comrades are later seen playing catch, preparing Colt for his role as the next Beast Titan.[8] Later that day, some time before the curtain at the stage rises, Colt wonders where Falco is shortly before the latter arrives out of breath and asks for Reiner Braun to come with him.[9]

At his seat, Colt notes the number of high ranking officials, ambassadors from other nations, and reporters who have all come to Liberio for Willy Tybur's stage festival; admiring what the Tybur family is capable of.[10] After the play on stage starts, Colt and his fellow Warrior candidates are left stunned when Willy reveals the truth behind the Great Titan War having been put to an end by the 145th King, Karl Fritz.[11] Falco brings Reiner Braun to meet with Eren, who is hiding in a basement behind the festival stage.[12] Colt continues to listen with the others as Willy continues his speech. When Willy declares war on Paradis Island, he witnesses Eren Yeager's Attack Titan burst through a nearby building and crush the stage, killing Willy Tybur and sending debris into the crowd.[13]

Colt is quick to act, pulling Gabi and Udo to their feet. He attempts to drag them away from the area, but when Udo spots Zofia's corpse, he pulls away from Colt's grasp. He reaches out for Udo, only for a stampede of panicked crowd-members to carry Colt and Gabi away, trampling Udo in the process. Colt and Gabi are forced to take cover behind a rock, until the pandemonium passes. Later, after recovering Udo's battered form, Colt and Gabi rush away from the stage, now a battlefield between the Attack Titan and War Hammer Titan. He expresses shock in the manner that Marley has been thrown into another war, when Gabi asks about Udo. He neglects to give her an answer, but instead tells her that they need to rush to a hospital. At this time, he starts to fret over where Falco is.[14]

They reach a hospital and Colt begs a doctor to take a look at Udo, but the doctor refuses, stating that their beds are full and Udo is already dead. Disheartened, Colt puts Udo's corpse on the ground and asks Gabi to stay with her family and get as far away from the plaza as possible while he goes to look for Falco, ensuring her that the Warrior Unit will defeat the invading Titans. However, Gabi refuses, and says that she will go to fight too, because she cannot understand why Udo and Zofia were killed. She then runs towards the battle zone, as Colt vainly tries to stop her.[15] He catches up to Gabi and Falco much later but is unable to stop them from using an enemy soldier's gear to get on board the airship and simply watches as they get away.[16]

War for Paradis arc

Colt later takes part in a meeting with Theo Magath and the other Warriors. He is alarmed after hearing of Zeke Yeager's betrayal and Magath's plan to attack Paradis Island alongside the Global Alliance. He then asks if they should have to wait that long to rescue Gabi and Falco before Reiner Braun declares they should launch a surprise attack now.[17]

The Blouse family, with Gabi and Falco, are treated to dinner by Niccolo. The Survey Corps arrives at the same restaurant shortly after to question him. Gabi reveals she is a Marleyan warrior and that she killed Sasha to Niccolo, making him hit Falco with a wine bottle. The Survey Corps breaks up the conflict, and Niccolo reveals that Zeke's spinal fluid had been inside numerous wine bottles served by Marleyan workers to many in the military elite, including the one Falco was hit by.[18]

Colt takes part in Marley's retaliation attack against Paradis, stationed aboard one of Marley's airships.[19] He parachutes into Shiganshina with Magath and a group of soldiers, meeting up with Pieck Finger and Gabi in the district. He is horrified to learn from Gabi that Falco has consumed Zeke's spinal fluid and been imprisoned by the Paradis military. Gabi further tells them about what she heard on the airship and Colt is stunned at the possibility of Zeke possessing royal blood.[20] As Zeke joins the battle to aid Eren against Marley's Titans, Colt orders Gabi to board the airships Marley will be using to retreat while he goes to rescue Falco. Although he tries to dissuade her, Gabi vehemently insists that she will help him. Nile Dok reunites Falco with his brother Colt.

Colt tries to reason with Zeke not to scream, as Falco has ingested his spinal fluid. Zeke ultimately decides to go through with his plan, apologizing to Colt before letting out a loud roar. Falco, along with everyone who drank the wine is transformed into a Pure Titan with the heat of his transformation killing Colt. Zeke then orders Falco to eat Reiner, who is grappling with Eren. A mortally wounded Porco exits his Titan and lets Falco's pure Titan devour him, saving Reiner in the process.[21] Following this and the beginning of the rumbling Falco's unconscious body is retrieved from his Titan by Jean Kirstein. After restraining Falco, Jean suggests feeding Falco to one of the newly-transformed Pure Titans, but Connie Springer is adamant that his mother should be allowed to devour Falco. An argument breaks out which results in Connie kidnapping Falco and fleeing with him.[22]

Falco wakes up on route to Ragako with no memory of any of the events immediately preceding his transformation. Connie claims to have found him unconscious in Shiganshina and saved him. He then says he will be taking Falco to a hospital which will help with his memory loss and although Falco is grateful, he is left ill-at-ease by a feeling that he has met Connie before.[23] The two stop to rest overnight and Falco overhears Connie talking to himself about Sasha.

When they arrive at Ragako, Falco reveals that he knows where they are and that he overheard Connie talking during the night. Connie states that he does not want revenge for Sasha's death and shows Falco an immobilized Titan in the village. Connie tells Falco that he wants him to help him brush the Titan's teeth and Falco agrees. Before they can start, they are interrupted by the arrival of Gabi and Armin.

Falco is stunned to realize that he has inherited the Jaw Titan and does not resist as Connie begins trying to forcibly feed him to the Titan. He is only saved by Armin, who tries to feed himself to the Titan, and Connie is forced to save him. After being rescued from the Titan, Falco learns of his brother's death and mourns for him.

The four return to Shiganshina, where they run into Annie Leonhart while eating. After the reunion, Falco and the rest of the group work with Jean, Mikasa, and Pieck to escape the Yeagerists in Shiganshina. While leaving, they stop to pick up Reiner.[24] Falco then stays back while the Warriors and Survey Corps infiltrate the Yeagerists holed up at the Paradis docks.

As Pieck is using her Titan form to transport Falco and the other noncombatants to a boat, Falco sees Reiner and Annie being overwhelmed and insists that he help them. Pieck tries to talk him down but Falco, feeling guilty about Galliard's death, states that if Porco would have been in his position, he would have leaped into the battle. He ignores Pieck's warning and runs into the fray. Using a nail he found at the harbor to cut his hand, Falco transforms into his Jaw Titan form for the first time, to Gabi's shock as she turns around and sees a bright flash.

Falco and Pieck are able to easily decimate the remaining Yeagerists, but as soon as they are defeated, Falco quickly begins losing control of his Titan. Unable to recognize his allies, Falco begins attacking the Survey Corps members and Pieck who tried to calm him down but to no avail as he almost completely bites through her Titan's nape. She is forced to hold him down while Magath cuts him out of his Titan's nape using a blade from the vertical maneuvering equipment. Magath then carries Falco's unconscious body to the boat, leaving him with Onyankopon. Afterward, Gabi and Pieck look after an unconscious Falco resting on the boat. [25]

Eventually, Falco awakens and is greatly dismayed to hear that the Wall Titans have reached Marley and have already destroyed Liberio; he later is locked inside the infirmary with Gabi, and both beg Annie to let them out.[26] Elsewhere Falco and Colt's are onboard a train comforting Gabi's parents while fleeing the Rumbling, telling them Colt and Reiner Braun will protect their children on Paradis Island.

After leaving Odiha, Falco and Gabi confront Annie in order to question her about the Female Titan's ability to easily inherit traits from other Titans. Falco then reveals to her that he likely received a memory of a previous Beast Titan who was capable of flight and theorizes that he could do the same due to the unique appearance of his Titan which is presumably because he ingested Zeke's spinal fluid.

Subsequently, Falco and Gabi express their intent to leave but are reprimanded by an unwilling Annie who expresses her concern about the possibility of the ship sinking during Falco's transformation. However, Kiyomi admits she is fine with that outcome.[27]

Using his Titan, Falco flies to Fort Salta with Gabi and Annie. The three arrive just in time to save Mikasa, Reiner, Jean, Connie and Levi from being devoured by an army of Titans.[28] As Falco circles around to return his passengers to Eren's Titan, Reiner reminds Falco of his promise to keep Gabi safe. As he gets closer to Eren, Falco is forced to dodge projectiles launched by War Hammer Titans generated on Eren's back. He drops Jean and Reiner off near Eren's nape to continue the attempts to detonate Pieck's explosives and drops Mikasa, Annie, and Connie off near Eren's tailbone to try to rescue Armin.[29] After the group manages to detonate Eren's nape, Falco collects them again and flies them to a safe distance so that Armin can transform atop Eren's Titan.[30]

Returning to Fort Salta, Falco touches down and exits his Titan to tearfully reunite with his parents. Their reunion is short-lived, however, as Eren transforms into a new Titan form and continues his advance. The centipede creature arrives at the base of the fort and begins emitting a steam-like gas which seeps through the fort and surrounding area; overhearing Levi demand Mikasa and Pieck get back aboard the Jaw Ttan, Falco is horrified to learn that the gas will soon turn all the Eldians present into mindless Titans. Falco then departs with Pieck and the two Ackermans. He flies Mikasa and Levi to Eren's Titan, where the two work together to infiltrate Eren's mouth and kill him.[31]

Following Eren's death Falco's Titan begins to disintegrate. Exiting his Titan on the ground, Falco is ecstatic to see that the Eldians have all returned to their human forms and immediately begins searching for Gabi. The two children's reunion is cut short by the arrival of the Marleyans from Fort Salta, who demand that the Eldians all prove they can no longer turn into Titans. Before the Marleyans can execute anyone, Armin arrives and manages to talk them down.

In the three years following the battle at Fort Salta, Gabi and Falco become caretakers for Levi, who is left crippled following the battle.[32]

Eventually, Falco and Gabi get married and stay together for life.[33]
