Hannes (ハンネス Hannesu^?) is a soldier of the Garrison.

Appearance

Hannes is an old man with short light hair and a thin mustache. He wears the traditional Garrison uniform.

Personality

Hannes is committed to restoring peace as a member of the Garrison. Beyond this duty, he has a soft spot for children, often Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, as he entertains them and their desires. In an alternate universe where he is a teacher, he treats his students Rico, Ian, and Mitabi in the same manner, promising to spend time with them despite his schedule.

Story

Let's Go to the Circus!

Eren is no longer interested in the circus

Hannes invites Eren to Ehrmich District's traveling circus, but Eren declines the invitation, explaining that he is no longer interested in it. Having been rejected, Hannes offers to invite Armin and his friends instead, revealing that he has four extra tickets with him.

Later, at the circus, Hannes watches the trapeze performers with Eren.

Spoof! Titan Elementary

Hannes, now a teacher, is persuaded by his students to play dodgeball with them. Having work to attend to, he tells them that he will play for only a few minutes.

No Alcohol Until You Turn 20

Eren confronts Hannes about drinking

Hannes is offered alcohol by Hugo, but he refuses, reasoning that he is cutting back on his alcohol intake. When Hugo asks for an explanation, Hannes silently recalls the day when he failed to save Carla Yeager because he was drunk. With this, he vows to stop drinking until peace is restored. Suddenly, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin come up behind him, and Eren asks if he has been drinking in the middle of the day again, pointing out his flushed face. Hannes plays it off, and Eren advises to get himself together.

Relationships

• Carla Yeager - At one point, Hannes believes he is pathetic for failing to rescue Carla from her tragic death. For this reason, Hannes becomes determined to prevent the past from recurring by further devoting himself to his duties as a soldier.
• Eren Yeager - As Carla's son, Hannes is closer to Eren than most children. In a flashback about Carla's death, he rescues Eren from a Titan. At one point, he also invites Eren to a traveling circus for fun.
• Rico Brzenska, Ian Dietrich, and Mitabi Jarnach - The three are Hannes' students in an alternate universe where he is a teacher. Hannes was shown to be lenient toward them.
