Template:Infobox char Ilse Langar (イルゼ・ラングナー Iruze Rangunā?) was a member of the Survey Corps. She was a participant of the 34th expedition beyond the Walls and was in charge of the left wing of the second brigade. She wrote very useful information about her final moments in a notebook.

Personality

She appeared to be quite emotional yet brave. She also appeared to think about others, even when she was in grave danger. During her last moments she regretted not being able to give anything back to her parents. She also thought of herself as a proud member of the Survey Corps and was resolved to do whatever she could.

Story

Battle of Trost District arc

Ilse is the sole survivor of a Titan attack. Her horse was killed and her 3D Maneuver Gear was severely damaged to a point she couldn't use it anymore. She runs on foot to the north, and hopes to survive until she reaches Wall Maria. She then ran across into a 6-meter class Titan who looks strangely at her and starts bowing to her while repeating Ymir's name with great respect, mistaking Ilse for Ymir. Moments later, Ilse, without further hesitation, asked the Titan a few questions which also regards eating mankind; she suddenly decides to stand up for it and gets to the point of yelling and confronting to the Titan about it. The Titan then notices that she is not Ymir and kills her via decapitation.

One year later, Hange is tracking a Titan when it suddenly begins to exhibit strange behavior, headbutting a tree. This tree was found to contain a "shrine" of sorts to Ilse Langar-her headless body included. Hange, along with Levi, recognize her armband as having belonged to members of the 34th Expedition. It is soon revealed that Ilse was in possession of a diary, in which she recorded her experiences up until her very last moments. The information within the diary prompts Hange to request for experiments with Titans to be taken up yet again, something Erwin later grants.

Sometime after, Hange delivers the reminder of Ilse's possessions to her parents, whom mourn the discovery.

Trivia

  • It is of note that, when Ilse was yelling at the Titan in rage and fear, the Titan was crying. This is the first time a non-shifter Titan has shown an emotional response.
  • Ilse, in contrast with the highly selfish Ymir, thinks about her duty to the Survey Corps, and regrets not being able to do more for her parents.
