Karifa (カリファ Karifa?) was a Marleyan city located on the continental mainland's northern coast.
Situation[]
Not much is known about Karifa, but it was shown to be a large coastal city in the northern part of the country. The city posessed a huge harbour that was able to accomodate the largest naval fleet ever gathered in human history.
Surrounded by mountains, the altitudes in Karifa went higher the more inland.

War for Paradis arc[]
After Eren Jaeger started the Rumbling on Paradis Island, the Marleyan airships who were stationned in the southern coast of the island in case of a retreat went back to the mainland after seeing the Wall Titans being awakened, in order to warn Marley and the rest of the world of the impending attack.
Global Alliance battleships in action
This warning led to entire city of Karifa and the surrounding regions to be emptied of its citizens, and for every nation in the world gathering their largest vessels equipped with the world's most advanced artillery in Karifa, and establish a large naval blockade. It was said by the commanding officer of the combined military alliance that it was a miracle that they managed to gather in the city in time to face off Eren.
When Eren and his Colossal Titans arrived, the Global Alliance fleet desperatly tried to stop the Titans, managing to cripple some of them, but they were eventually overpowered, with the entire fleet being slaughtered, and Karifa being trampled to dust.
Upon arriving in Odiha, Yelena confesses to discussing a strategy with Eren Jaeger to cripple Marley's military defenses with a partial Rumbling in order to secure peace for Paradis Island for several decades to come. She had singled out Karifa as the likely gathering point for a Global Allied Fleet which would inevitably be summoned after Eren's planned raid on Liberio. Despite her guarantee of a temporary peace with a strike against Karifa, she had shown some concern regarding Fort Salta in southern Marley. With Eren leading a full-scale Rumbling against the entire world, Yelena guesses that after destroying Karifa, he would target Fort Salta in order to completely rid Marley of any weapons against the Founding Titan.[1]

- Unlike the majority of Marleyan location names which are based in Latin or Italian nomenclature, "Karifa" is simply the katakana for Africa (アフリカ Afurika?) reversed. This may refer to the Marleyan continental mainland being based on the real-world continent of Africa mirrored vertically.
- If mirrored vertically, Karifa's location according to Yelena appears to correspond roughly with St Helena Bay in South Africa.[1]
