The Kirschtein family (キルシュタイン家 Kirushutain-ke?) is one of several families that live within the Walls. It is the family where Jean Kirschtein hails from.
Story
A Sudden Visitor: The Torturous Curse of Adolescence
In 847, Jean is drawing in his bedroom. His mother suddenly bursts in and yells at him, making her son mad for not having knocking. Jean's mother then shows her son her pan with an omelette in it, saying she brought it to him since he was not coming. In response, Jean gets her out of his room and takes the decision to join the army and get out of the town.
Two years later, Jean is in the 104th Cadet Corps. He has an argument with Sasha and Commander Pyxis, who was there, proposes them to make a cooking contest to solve it. After having failed to get the food he wanted, Jean is visited by his mother in the trainee canteen. She calls him by his nickname and offers him apples, which embarrasses and angers Jean. She eventually leaves and Eren advises Jean to be nicer to his mother. Later on, Jean decides to steal meat from his superiors for his recipe. As he stands near his goal, one of his superiors calls him and gives him a bag from Jean's mother. Jean opens it and finds a note from his mother and an omelette. This reminds him of his childhood and his mother. The memories bring back courage within him, allow Jean to come up with an idea for the contest and win it.[1]
Humanity's Comeback arc
In year 847, Jean joins the 104th Cadet Corps with the initial goal to join the Military Police Regiment.[2]
Eve of the Counterattack arc
Jean, having graduated as the sixth best soldier, eventually chooses to join the Scout Regiment.[3]
