Attack on Titan 2 has almost 40 playable characters that are gradually unlocked as the player progresses through Story Mode.
General Information
In Story Mode, players are restricted to playing their own created character. Unlocked characters are able to be played in Another Mode. Additionally, if players have not unlocked a particular character because that person died during Story Mode, they can go back and replay that mission once the entirety of Story Mode has been completed.
Each character has a total of six stats to help distinguish them from each other.
Unlocking Characters
The below characters have a chance of dying during Story Mode and can be rescued via additional playthroughs of their associated missions.

| Hannes | Saved towards the end of the mission "Charge" |
| Ian Dietrich and Mitabi Jarnach | Saved after Eeren starts moving the rock in the "Primal Roar" mission |
| Levi Squad | Saved during the "Choices and Consequences" mission |
| Marco Bodt | Saved after Levi's cut scene in the "Primal Roar" mission |
| Miche Zacharius | Saved towards the end of the mission "Beast Titan" |
| Mina Carolina and Thomas Wagner | Saved during the "First Battle" mission |
