Our mission's going smoothly... But... I'm worried about our comrades in the vanguard. [. . .] I heard the three kids who escaped with you five years ago are trainees, Captain Hannes. They're on the front line, too... | ||
— Phil expresses his concerns to Hannes[2] |
Phil (フィル Firu?) is a member of the Garrison.
Appearance
Phil is a young adult man with short-cut black hair. He wears the standard uniform of the Garrison.
Personality
Phil appears to be a man who is easily agitated. When Titans invaded Trost District, he was unable to focus on his squad's tasks due to his fear for his comrades in the vanguard. This aspect of his personality was again shown when he delivered news of the Colossus and Armored Titans reappearances within Wall Rose, appearing very frantic as he relayed his information to Pixis and Erwin. His tendency to panic also leads him to say inappropriate things, as seen when he reminds Hannes that Eren, Armin, and Mikasa were part of the vanguard during Trost's breach, although he quickly realized his error.
Despite this, Phil is a dedicated soldier, as he boldly participated in the mission to rescue Eren from the Colossus and Armored Titans alongside his fellow soldiers.
Story
Battle of Trost District arc
After Trost District is attacked by the Colossus Titan and breaks down, Phil and the rest of his squad take up positions atop Wall Rose to serve as lookouts, in case the Colossus Titan returns. As Hannes admires the traps that were laid out along the wall for approaching Titans, Phil expresses his fear for their comrades in the vanguard. Phil notes Eren, Armin, and Mikasa have been sent to the front lines, before abruptly apologizing for bringing it up.[2]
Clash of the Titans arc
During the Titan crisis in Wall Rose, Phil accompanies Hannes in their search for the breach in the Wall.[3]
Phil accompanies Hannes when the latter reports to Hange Zoë that there is no breach in Wall Rose. He witnesses Bertolt Hoover and Reiner Braun's revelation to be the Colossus and Armored Titans, and witnesses their fight with the Survey Corps, and Eren Yeager's kidnapping.[4]
In the aftermath, he is sent to report to Commander Pixis that there is no breach in Wall Rose, and that three Titans were found hiding in the 104th Training Corps.[5] He then returns to Wall Rose with Erwin's soldiers to aid in Eren's rescue.
Upon reaching a Titan Forest where the traitors are believed to have fled, Hannes orders Phil to round up their horses while the others enter the woods.[6]
