Nigatsu kichijitsu bousho nite[1]
Where is the wind blowing from, and where is it heading to?
The fired arrow escapes and soars away...
The Traces of the Attack
That is the long Path to Freedom
Behind the Burning Horizon, what that man saw was...
What kind of scenery lies before your eyes right now?
What do you see with your vision blocked by tall walls?
What kind of horizon is reflected in the eyes of the bird that soars the skies?
Will you destroy the future bound by the tall walls?
Wreathing yourself in crimson light, you head beyond the horizon
I’m sure that one day, you’ll overtake this setting sun
Like a crimson arrow, you will set yourself ablaze
And head towards the distant freedom…
What kind of hope lies in the grass buds sprouting from the earth?
Will you someday change the world protected by tall walls?
Crimson flowers bloom, and the funeral bell tolls
Though their names may remain unknown, their deeds will be remembered by all who pass by
Like a crimson arrow, you will overcome times past
And ceaselessly head towards freedom…
This battle will only grow harsher with the passing of time
But the fact that you’re still standing there brings courage to people
Oh…what should I say to you in two months?
I’m getting a taste of the powerlessness of words…
The crimson light will go around thirteen winters
I promise I will turn the fiery trails you leave behind into song
Like a crimson arrow, you will soar across that sky
And head towards freedom…
You have yet to know anything about this world or your true enemies
Stop dreaming about the expanding horizons in a world unknown, and start your journey instead
The freedom that cannot be denied of us always lies there
Take the world on your shoulders, come on…let’s go!
To you in Two Months
-To you in two months, who will continue to fight
A lucky day in February, somewhere[2]

Notes: This song is written in the form of a letter to the characters. Its title is a reference to both the title of the first episode and the 2-month gap between Historia Reiss's coronation and the departure to Shiganshina District in the year 850.

Eine Botschaft in 14 Zeichen

14-Lettered Message
Another noisy day begins with shaking you awake
“Don’t be picky and eat your veggies!”
I scold you again, as ineffective as it is
I wonder if you’ll come back covered in mud and wounds again?
All this worrying about you is making these wrinkles worse
Geez, being the mother to a son sure isn’t easy!
But
I truly loved those days, and this genuinely cruel world
Oh…if only time would stop, because I wanted to be with you all
Through these peaceful days…forever…and ever…and ever…
But that is a foolish desire, for all humans will meet their end
Children grow and surpass their parents, and that is nothing but happiness
As ordinary as I am, I couldn’t find anything
More valuable than my own life for the longest time
That is, until you were born…
-So
Even if you’re not special, even if you’re not exceptional
Even if nobody acknowledges you
You’re amazing just for being alive
So please don’t forget-
Even if you eventually come to curse your birth
I believe that you’ll not go down a wrong path
So have faith in yourself -
Oh, bird soaring across the final sky
Please let that child know
That I love him, I love him so much…
"Thank you for being born" [4]
|
Notes: A message from Carla Jaeger to her son Eren before her death. There are two 14 lettered messages, the first being "Don’t be picky and eat your veggies!” and the second being "Thank you for being born".

The Final Battle Deed
Leaving the walls behind, we rushed forth in kind; I brought with me a troop, and south we head as a group
All of us on horseback, our thoughts on the same track; united we are in determination, paving the path to peace our fixation
- But
Now I’m all alone, and my comrades all gone; north is where I head, even if it means leaving them dead
Plan botched, and horse lost; resorting to basic ways, I dash across the plains
I threw away my broken device, and relied only on my own trained legs
No matter how merciless the world is, I will never give in
What blessings did civilization bring us?
I took up a pen in place of a sword, wielding it with the will to fight
With weapons at the ready, in a forest so creepy; I’m covered in shade, and on course to the walls I stayed
In these trembling hands I took, an ancient and worn notebook; on these pages I’ve recorded, the truths I discovered
Fear is always ready to bare its fangs, waiting hungrily for any sign of weakness
I took off seeking freedom, and I’ll never give in
Without any warning, a titan appeared from behind the trees, but wait!? It opened its mouth-
“…subjects…of..Ymir…” “…great….Ymir…” “Well met…”
- and out came these meaningful words…
In it…I saw…a spark of…intelligence…
I even thought…that communication…was possible…
And so…I summoned my words…and posed-
A question to which there is no answer
Only bellowing resounded across the silent forest
I could be the first to communicate with a titan in the history of mankind…
Or so I thought, but that’s mere fantasy, and reality has its limits
This was…too much to handle…and I…simply snapped…
Immediately…I gathered all my malice…and spat out… “Begone from this world!!”
A changing situation, constantly in fluctuation; my angry roars exhausted, where am I headed?
Shadow given chase, with endless questions keeping pace; my mind filled with whys, under a faraway sky
I turn my back on crushed hope, my wings fluttering behind me
Taking off towards a fragile tomorrow, I will never give i-
Everything was taken from me, and the end comes upon everyone
No matter how meaningless life is, I kept on fighting till the end
Oh…I will never give in…
“This is the final battle deed left behind by Ilse Langnar, who fought on until the very end…”[6]
|
Notes: This song is about Ilse Lagnar's final moments before being eaten by a Titan. The last line is spoken by Levi as he finds Ilse's diary.

Your sternness always stems from gentleness
And I felt a warm light behind those harsh words
I recall plenty of painful things…
But I made it to where I am, free of doubts, sharing smiles and laughter along the way…
The light of the Dual Wings
Nobody knows what’ll happen in the future…
But you’ve always been behind me, giving me the push needed…
To choose the path of least regrets, right?
But who will watch your back?
Tiny feathers gather one by one, forming a white wing
Fragile lives are lost one by one, leaving behind a black wing
Though a bird may be born to soar across the skies
I’m sure it won’t be able to fly well with only one wing
But you will shoulder the determination of all that is white and black
And guide everyone to great distances beyond the walls
And so…I will die….believing that…
Oh…how I wish this would last…but…it seems like my time is up…
I have….one last thing…I’d like to tell you…
No…nevermind…it’s nothing…
Tiny feathers gather one by one, forming a white wing
Fragile lives are lost one by one, leaving behind a black wing
In my final moments, did I appear as a brave soldier to your eyes?
Don’t forget that you have the light of dual wings sprouting from your back
And if I were to give a name to the light I felt…yes…it would be…hope…[10]

Die Jugend ist ein Feuerwerk
Spinning, spinning, spin-off, school-life
Spinning, spinning, spin-out, school-days
BRAVO!!
Suimasen Sono chiihan kuiteegaa

BRAVO!!
Excuse me, but I’d like to eat that cheese burger!
Youth is like Fireworks
O, bird that soars across the skies
What color did the flower petals have when they scattered on the battlefield?
(If you have <love>?)
These are precious things
(Will you also have <rice? Comedy?>)*
As childish as they may be
Did you wish to regain them?
Spinning, spinning, spin-off, school life
Absurd school rules, senseless restraints
Kick down those <doors> to your bird cage
Youth leaps out in one moment of <eternity>
A silly and boisterous festival, a miraculous turn of events
Like the fireworks that adorn the night sky, it leaves behind brilliant trails
Who was it that looked upon the windy skies?
Did the nighthawk burn brightly in its search for a star?
(Within the school gates[walls]?)
There is no freedom to speak of
(Will you bring an end to it?)
In this merciless world
Did you wish to destroy such a world?
Spinning, spinning, spin-out, school days
Meek obedience, enforced by the system
Sow the seedlings of crimson fire
Always right at the head of this endless battle
All the hustle and bustle, it’s like a fantasy
Like the fireworks that paint the night sky, it engraves these memories upon passing seasons
Can’t bear to look at these wounds? Who has 8th grade syndrome now?
I’m not gonna ‘know my place’, cuz that’s the job of adults!
We’re in 7th grade!
A scene we dreamt of, such passionate adoration
Rid yourself of your weak hearts
And move forth, steady in your advancement
Roll around in mud and open up those blossoms
Like the fireworks that are drawn to the night sky, it sings of a flaming hope
Ah…attack…attack…on junior high!
BRAVO!! [13]

Music video
Jiyuu no Daishou [Theatrical Size] was a music video included in the LE featuring the animated sequence from Attack on Titan Part 2: Jiyuu no Tsubasa for which Jiyuu no Daishou was created. Both the song and lyrics were made especially with the beginning of the Scouting Mission in mind, to synchronise with the animation and hint at future story developments.

Trivia
- The LE packaging features one of the walls, with different sleeves featuring an open gate, a gate blocked by a boulder and a gate blocked by a hardened titan.
- It is implied Revo can transform into a bird, as it is shown in the packaging and the Guren no Yumiya music video, heard in the first bonus song, and referenced in 14 Moji no Dengon lyrics.
- The title "14 Moji no Dengon" is a reference to a Sound Horizon song, "11 Moji no Dengon", which also features a dying mother leaving an ambiguous message to her child.
- The full version of Seishun wa Hanabi no you ni features a lyric about a nighthawk, which was the main motif of a Sound Horizon single about a band from a parallel world, just like Attack on Titan: Junior High is a parallel world to Attack on Titan.
