As it is common in districts within Wall Sina, the city of Stohess is beautiful and rich, and is mainly inhabited by people from the upper class. The social classes in the city are segregated, with the rich living in elegant residential areas while the working class people live in poorer parts of the city, where even the Military Police will not go because of the criminality.
At some unknown point in the past, the construction of an underground city was started below this district and others within Wall Sina, but the plan was abandoned during construction leaving unused tunnels below the city. It is now used as a relief area in case of Wall breaching, but is said to not last more than a week with all of humanity within Wall Sina.
When a convoy takes Jean Kirschtein, currently disguised as Eren Jaeger, to the Imperial Capital for judgment, the Scout Regiment uses the opportunity as a ploy to expose Annie Leonhart as an enemy combatant. Stohess District becomes the prime location of the destruction caused by Annie after Eren, Armin Arlelt, Mikasa Ackermann and the Scout Regiment force her to reveal her identity as the Female Titan. After a fight between her and Eren, she is ultimately captured, but causes considerable damage to the District, including opening up a crack in the Wall, revealing a Titan inside it. Erwin Smith takes full responsibility for the destruction of the District.
At the instruction of Pastor Nick, the Scout Regiment quickly covers the Wall Titan with fabric to prevent the sunlight from awakening it. Hange Zoë takes a fragment of Annie's hardened Titan skin and discovers that it is identical to the Wall's composition, revealing that the Wall was made using the Wall Titans' hardening ability.
Meanwhile, Erwin receives word that Titans have appeared within Wall Rose. The bulk of the Scout Regiment is still within Stohess from the operation to flush out the Female Titan and they prepare to depart that same night. Erwin leads them out of Stohess and towards Ehrmich District in the south, which would be the safest route to any potential breach.
