Hitch and Marlowe ridicule Jean for lacking confidence

After school ends and the students from Class 4 head home, Jean breaks off to walk with Marco to the book store owned by the latter's family; however, Jean is greatly shocked when Marco refuses to go with him and runs away. Perplexed, Jean thinks over several possible reasons for this change in behavior; he tries returning several of Marco's items including some DVD's and a mechanical pencil he has but is stopped when Eren and his friends arrive at the same time. Jean bemoans how Eren ruins everything when he encounters Hitch and Marlowe; after hearing his story, they ridicule him for having no confidence.

Jean tries again after a student council meeting but is surprised to hear him mention a tribute done at an earlier point in time. Hearing Marco go through some lost and found items, Jean is nervous when he hears about a mechanical pencil similar to the one in his possession. He bursts into the room and begs forgiveness; Marco is unaware of lending him it, causing Jean to become confused once again. Marco admits he borrowed an eraser from Jean and did not return it either. The two forgive each other and agree to meet up for ramen later. Just then, Jean trips and the entire lost and found box spills out over the floor; Jean again begs forgiveness from Marco, who stands there embarrassed.
