  • Starting today October 3 at 11:00 p.m. Japan time (equivalent to 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time) and every Monday from now on, Attack on Titan Season 1 and its OVAs will be reaired in Japan in preparation for Season 2 to be released the next Spring. At one episode per week, the reairings will be ending in April, just in time to be followed by the new season.

Here on the Attack on Titan Wiki we have no intention to stand by with crossed arms, so starting from this thread we'll be hosting rewatches and discussions of the episodes in synchronization with the Japanese reairings, which will be followed by the Season 2 discussions once it premieres.

Fortunately, thanks to Wikia's partnership with Crunchyroll, we can watch the episodes legally and for free directly from this wiki (minus the OVAs), so each discussion thread will include its respective embedded video. Hopefully Crunchyroll simulcasts Season 2 as well and we can do the same with its episodes (unless they betray us like they did with the manga e_e).

Spoilers from the manga and from following episodes will be allowed in these threads (but try not to abuse of them), but they should be properly tagged using the {{Spoiler}} template this way:

    {{Spoiler|This text is spoiler}}

Which will come out as follows (hover your mouse over the white line to see the text):

    SPOILER: This text is spoiler

Any spoiler not properly tagged will be edited or deleted and the user could be blocked after multiple violations. Spoilers from non-officially released chapters are still NOT allowed (not even with the template) according to our Spoiler Policy.

Finally, like with each chapter release, we'll be organizing votings to choose a featured article, featured image and poll for each episode; but since there will be a new episode each week, these will be flash votings of 24 hours of duration. You can participate in the voting for the featured article for this episode here, the featured image here and the poll here.

So without further ado, enjoy the episode that started everything:

    • I didn't think it was gonna be done here like in the SnK subreddit as well!

But the wiki is way more interesting to me, Reddit layout and comments section are freakin weird...

Tried clicking the video and it said "Sorry, this video is not available in your region!"

Well, joke is on you Crunchyroll as I already have all of the episodes stored on my laptop in 1080p, you !@#$%^ xD

    • I got the idea for the rewatches when the reairings were announced. It was not until some days later when I noticed that the subreddit was already doing it, LOL. Anyway, I still decided to wait for the reairings in order to be synchronized with them like we do with the chapter releases.

I can't watch the episodes either because they are only available for USA. :P Although there are simple ways to avoid the restrictions but I don't know if I should talk about it... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Either way, I prefer the Funimation sub, even with its own flaws. The video is there for the ones who want (and can) watch it, but you obviously can watch the episode anywhere else.

    • About the episode, this was a great start for the series. Very few pilot episodes have caught my attention like this one did. Even before the credits start you already got a look at the Colossus Titan (from the very first scene) and the 3DMG in action. The music, the animation, the narrative, all was very well done. The only thing that seemed gratuitous was all those exaggerated blood drops at the end, but overall it was an excellent episode.

    • The animation made the Colossal Titan in this one shot so emotional and sad (almost watery eyes) like it's already agonizing over its attempt to break the wall xD

Great episode. Nothing much wrong with aside from the unrealistic amount of blood drops at the end.

Also, why did the Smiling Titan kill Eren's mom before eating her? Was it just to make it seem dramatic because it was such an important moment? Or do other unseen titans also do this?

It also happens in the manga, so it's a mystery. Maybe it has some unknown explanation, or maybe it's just Isayama's logic, like SPOILER: kids surviving third-degree burns and falls from dozens of meters on hard surfaces.

    • Okay, re-watching the scene when Keith Shadis admits to Moses's mother that the Corps didn't learn anything on their expedition is a lot more interesting to watch given what we learn about him later in the story. It seems like his crying fit in front of her is more out of frustration than sorrow when she asks if they learned anything: "We never learn anything! It's my fault... My own incompetence killed our men!" That last line about his own incompetence being the reason for their failures also holds a lot more meaning now.

Not to mention that it looks to me that he's probably also suffering from PTSD.

    • With this rewatch, I can really see why this series got as popular as it did. Great animation, an incredible soundtrack, and solid faithfulness to the original manga. These are gonna be an interesting upcoming 24 weeks!

SPOILER: And to think, that promise made so many years ago has finally come full circle. Come to think of it, within the next week we'll know all of what Grisha was hiding!

SPOILER: Also, I've just realized that the Church of the Walls was totally right about the Walls being made by God. Rod Reiss explains that with the Coordinate, the monarch of the walls is essentially the God of their world.

We don't know how many weeks will be because the announcement also says that the OVAs will be aired, but the text isn't clear on whether all of them will be aired or just some of them, and only "No Regrets" is mentioned by name. We also don't know if Since That Day will be aired too and that's why only the first 13 episodes are scheduled in the calendar.

If the 5 OVAs were to be aired one per week, the season would be starting in May, but that seems to be too late so Sim0n2170 guesses that the two "No Regrets" OVAs will be included in an hour special and the other three OVAs in another special. I also think that Since That Day will be omitted.

We probably won't know it for sure until the specific release date of the season is announced or until the day is near and we see it in Tokyo MX's schedule.

    • Eww, crunchyroll why didn't you use the dubbed version????  Eh, oh well, I own the DVD's for season 1 and all the ova episodes currently released in USA.  God I cannot stand subtitles.  Also, why is Shiganshina spelled "Zhiganshina"?  Lol

      Yup, I agree.

I don't need this rewatch! I can rewatch it in my computer 24/7 without waiting every Monday. Aaarrggghh. Joke aside, I'll try to watch this series one more time, every Monday, 11.00 PM, just like in the reairing. If you're wondering I'm in the same timezone as Japan.

Also why the translation for 進撃の巨人 is Attack on Titan, not Attack on Giant? Because 巨 is gigantic and 人 is person, so we get "gigantic person". We should've called Titans as Giants. By the way, I'm still a newbie on Japanese.

It could've possessed a behavior unique among mindless Titans. Instead of eating its victims alive, it killed them to keep them from moving.

But wouldn't there be a real trailer for S2's events by, say, December? I'm just going by what's been the case with Kabaneri, its trailer was uploaded in December and it was set for April just like AoT S2.

I'm sorry, but I just perfer to listen to my own language and not KONI CHACHI ECHHI WWEABBOOO WAKI TASHI.

Oh no you didn't, you gonna wait till 2018? Holy shit xD season 2 won't be dubbed until it's 6 months after it's finished airing and since it's supposed to end by September 2017, the dub would be April 2018 :O well I salute your patience then, lol.

I think it was just to show off how strong and scary titans are, after all, it was the first major death scene.

    • Or maybe it was something like an act of mercy. Isayama doesn't wanted Eren to see his own mother being eaten alive. SPOILER: However, this sounds less plausible, if we also consider what happened to Connie's mother
