  • We now know that only Eldians can turn into Titans. We also know that the Coordinate doesn't work on Asians and Ackermans (and other unnamed clans). This implies that that the Coordinate only works on Eldians. If we accept this, the fact that Asians and Ackermans cannot be affected by the Coordinate means that they are not Eldian in origin, and so cannot turn into Titans.

Since Mikasa is half Asian, half Ackerman, both bloodlines which cannot be affected by the Coordinate, does it mean that she will be unable to turn into a Titan if we use the serum on her?

    • I don't think Coordinate immunity and Titan potential are linked genetically. If that were the case, the 1,700 years of Eldians raping Marleyans in order to make more "Subjects of Ymir" would have been useless.

    • Huh? I don't really understand your point. Oh wait, I think I get it. You are saying that anyone with Marleyan blood will be immune to the Coordinate, yes?

My theory is based on Coordinate susceptibility, not immunity, so anyone who is of Eldian descent will be susceptible to the Coordinate's powers in addition to their Titan potential. So all of their descendants are for all intents and purposes considered Eldian. Think of Eldians as the "mutants" and Marleyans as normal people.

The same goes for the Asians and Ackermans. We've gotten so used to thinking of them as "special" races, have we considered the possibility that they are the normal ones, and the rest of the Wall people are really the ones who are special?

    • Well, I'm currently going by the assumption that the Eldians are the "majority race" of the walls, meaning that only Eldians are susceptible to the Coordinate and Titan powers. Since Levi and Mikasa's ancestry must have intermingled with Eldian blood during their time within the walls (Levi especially, due to his unknown father), and since it's implied that half-Eldians can still become Titans (1,700 years of eugenics), it's still very likely that Levi and Mikasa could become Titans. The immunity to the Coordinate due to their Ackerman (+Asian in Mikasa's case) ancestry must be something that overrules the Coordinate's influence over Eldians.

    • Yes, if there is an Eldian somewhere in Mikasa's ancestry, she would certainly be able to turn into a titan according to this theory.

My theory is that Mikasa's Asian/Ackerman ancestors are not affected by the Coordinate simply because they are not of Eldian descent, and therefore do not possess the "Titan genes" which would render them susceptible to the Coordinate's power. In contrast to our previous assumption that they are somehow "special" races.

    • Well their special abilities are from Titan science.

    • No, she wouldn't be able to turn into a Titan as she isn't an Eldian. For proof:

      1. Only Eldians can be affected by the coordinate as shown when their memories were wiped.

      2. The Asian Clan (they don't contain the gene, same goes for Marley) and the Ackermans (by-product of Titan Science, not true Eldian) are not of Eldian Descent, thats why the coordinate didn't work on them. So I assume that's why they were killed off as to prevent the "truth" from being revealed to the populace.

      3. Mikasa is the daughter of an Ackerman and a woman from the Asian clan thus she doesn't have the genes necessary to transform.

    • If we have the proof she has an Eldian ancestor, that would be possible. On her mother side, assuming she's indeed 100% Asian, odds are slim. But on her father's side, maybe on of her Ackerman ancestors married an Eldian?

Moreover, some nowadays Eldians have mixed heritage, because they mentioned that during the Eldian empire age they killed men of other ethnicities and forced the women to have their children.

Just because the coordinate doesn't work on them doesn't necessarily mean they can't be turn into Titans. Their inherit special abilities deriving from Titans would imply they have some kind of genetic relation with Eldians. Their immunity to to the coordinate might also be the result of science.

We need more context about them.

    • It possibly that mikasa turns to a female titan it because if the director can be confirm that mikasa will turn into a giant titan, it possible that she can fights the titan or possible mikasa will be a titan too...

    • two questions to ask first. Are Ackermans immune because they're non eldian or because of their abilities. Lets say its because of their abilities, then both Mikasa and Levi should be immune. but lets say its because they're non eldian. well Levi should be able to turn into one and Mikasa could be immune depending on her ancestry. Her family split from the monarchary awhile ago so she could potentially have a eldian grandparent.

    • What  if ackermans are originally eldians we keep talking about them as different races but what if the ackermans are just eldians that were experimented on .

we hear that only eldians can be affected by titan serums so probably only eldians can be affected by the titan science.

    • Most of this thread pre-dates Chapter 96, which confirms that the minorities of Paradis (nobles, and by extension Ackermans) are in fact Eldians, but of a different race.

Kenny's grandfather has already confirmed that their bloodline is not of the majority race within the Walls, that being the Subjects of Ymir. Rod's comment about Uri being unable to control Kenny due to the latter's Ackerman heritage also supports this. No reason why they would lie.

How "Titan science" works is largely unknown.

    • Just caught up with the series and seems that Mikasa is basically a mini-Titan.

    • Mikasa cant possibly turn into a since she's half of two of the bloodlines that cant be affected by the founding titan's abilities and possibly the titan syrum. also you must bare in mind that the ackerman family were subjected to titan experiments and can harness the power of the titans as well as the titan syrum only works SPECIFICALLY on eldians/subjects of ymir.

so in to conclude since mikasa can be affected by the coordinate due to her heritage, its safe to say that she cant turn into a titan

    • but then again, the possibilty is high given that the ackerman clan is eldian
