    • This was a solid episode. I've heard complaints about the quality of animation and the fight between Eren and Reiner, but in my opinion it's nowhere as bad as the Frieda vs Grisha fight and scene where Eren was chained up. That was awful! I was thinking of quitting the anime if that decline in quality continued. This fight wasn't as good as Eren vs Annie or Eren's first bout with Reiner, but it was decent.

My issue is that it didn't seem to contain as much intensity as the earlier Eren-titan fights had.

The music at a certain part was exceptionally good. I think it was when Eren was smashing Reiner's face in.

The quarduped titan's face looks really weird.

    • No Regrets OVA is anime-canon, yay!

    • It made sense that they'd use that shot of Erwin and Levi. Isayama used that scene in the manga, though angled a bit differently if I recall. Since Wit already had footage from No Regrets there wasn't much incentive to reanimate it to be closer to what Isayama actually drew.

    • I'm not impressed at all with the visuals this season. WIT is doing a terrible job this time around. We finally got to the point where the manga looks better than the anime. The directors are god awful at their job

You do realize that the director is Masashi Koizuka and the "Executive Director" is Tetsuro Araki (same guy who directed the first season).

Was the animation that bad in the first part of season 3? How so it was that noticeable? I mean was it anywhere near as bad as One Punch Man Season 2 animation?

No, it was fantastic my issuse is with Eren vs Reiner fight dynamics it had too much still shots and slow motions which ruined the fight for me.

    • Over the past 2 days I finally caught up with the new season and I think its a pretty good adaptation so far being basically a 1 V 1 recreation of the manga. Overall I prefer the first episode as the animation and editing were better than this episode. I don't have very many comments on most of this episode as it was consistent with the manga and everything that worked there translated well here due to the superb voice acting (JP) and music that the show has always done well. The fight against Reiner for me was decently animated but I felt the problem here was the editing especially the bizarre jump cuts to the CGI roof shingles rather than kinetic hits as it made the entire thing feel chaotic and unfinished. It made me wonder if they cut corners here for later fight scenes and they just decided not to animate portions of this fight to preserve the budget.

I think it was S3 e6 "Sin" and e7 "Wish."

I'm rewatching "Sin" and the Frieda vs Grisha fight isn't quite as bad as I remember. Maybe it's because the bright underground caverns required less shadows for Frieda and Grisha's titans and therefore looked less detailed. Even for so little of a fight, it was underwhelming considering that these are giants-that-walk-the-earth.

Eren has cried plenty of times in prior episodes, but here it was the least convincing. Compare his breakdown in those two episodes with the one where he's inside the titan's stomach. Or when Hanne's died. The facial expressions, angles, and everything else seems to be so much more emotional and expressive. In S3 it's more simplistic, which makes such a supposedly impactful scene come across as routine and average.

The actions scenes of Hangi and company fighting Kenny's troops was a severe drop in animation quality of S2 e2, and even previous 3DM scenes.

    • There was a Grisha vs Frieda fight? I remember it being a slideshow... and being very dissapointed…

There is something off about season 3 and i can't quite put my finger on it... It's so anticlimactic… Like... Whenever Eren used to transform i was on the edge of my seat, shit was going down! From S3 Eren's transformaration were incredibly uneventful and not interesting at all… I think i'm missing emotional weight or something.

Same with Reiner fight, their first battle in S2 was EPIC, it felt lengthy (probably cuz it was an entire episode?) and very emotional cuz of their betrayal and Eren had to work for his victory.

Their rematch was so mediocre... It didn't feel even nearly as emotional as their first fight even though they tried to make it emotional by bring up the "fighting at their home" thing. It just didn't work. There was no build up to this fight… The entire season Reiner is not even mentioned and then they are fighting.

I'm still enjoying the show but it's so much weaker than S1 and S2 somehow.
