A timeline of all events from the Attack on Titan anime.

Prehistoric events are followed by "B1," indicating that they predate Year 1 of the given calendar system used in the Attack on Titan world. Historical events and story events preceded by "c." are approximations based on given information and are not to be considered exact dates, and may be subject to change as new information is given.

Year Event
1003 B1 Ymir Fritz made a contract with the Devil of All Earth and obtained the power of the Titans.[1]

Year Event
743 Titans appear across the world for the first time in history, beginning a mass slaughter of the human race.[2]

Through unknown means, countless Colossal Titans are gathered together to form three massive barriers by hardening their skin. The surviving remnants of humanity escape to these three barriers, the Walls Maria, Rose, and Sina.[3][4] Evidently, some human settlements survive beyond the Walls.[5][6]

Along with the majority race within the Walls, a clan from a place known as the "Orient" successfully enters into the Walls.[7]

c.780 A homeless girl from beyond the Walls is given the name "Ymir" by the leader of a cult, the "Subjects of Ymir." The girl joins the cult and becomes a figure of worship.[6]
784 A miner attempts to dig beneath Wall Sina to enter the interior, but after digging for some time he discovers an area below the ground where the Walls jut outward. After discussing his findings with a friend, the miner mysteriously disappears, and his friend disappears as well soon afterward.[8]
c.785 The Subjects of Ymir are found by the authorities. They are led to the top of a wall, where they are all turned into Pure Titans wandering the wilderness.[6]
824 Grisha Jaeger joins the Restorationists after learning the truth of his sister's death. He meets Dina Fritz, the last member of the Fritz bloodline in Marley. After receiving propaganda from "the Owl," an Eldian spy, they make plans to retrieve the Founding Titan from Paradis Island in order to revive the nation of Eldia.[1]
825 Zeke Jaeger is born to Grisha and Dina.
c.832 Grisha Jaeger cures a devastating plague in Shiganshina District.[9]
835 Mikasa Ackermann is born to her father and mother, the latter being the last member of the Oriental clan.[7][10]

Eren Jaeger is born to Grisha and Carla Jaeger.[10]

843 The new batch of Warriors inherit their new Titans.
844 Nicholas Lovof tasks Levi, Furlan Church, and Isabel Magnolia to find incriminating files on Lovof's business with Lang Company and to kill Erwin Smith, who carries the files. Erwin Smith encounters Levi in the Underground and offers to pardon his crimes if he joins the Scout Regiment.[11]

Commander Keith Sadies decides to implement Erwin Smith's scouting formation into the 23rd Exterior Scouting Mission. On this expedition, Furlan and Isabel are killed by an abnormal Titan. Erwin convinces Levi to fight for the Scout Regiment after Levi nearly takes Erwin's life.[12]

In her home, Mikasa Ackermann is abducted by bandits after her parents are killed. She is rescued by Eren Jaeger, who kills two of the traffickers. Mikasa manages to kill the third in a moment of fury. She is later taken in to the Jaeger family.[7]

Year Event

The Fall of Wall Maria

Grisha Jaeger travels to the Interior, but not before promising to show his son Eren the secret within his basement when he returns.[9]

Marley sends out four of their Warriors, Bertholdt Hoover, Reiner Braun, Annie Leonhart, and Marcel to destroy humanity and retrieve the "Coordinate."[13][6] Marcel is eaten by Ymir's Titan, and Ymir regains her humanity.[6]

The Colossal Titan breaches the outer gate of Shiganshina District,[9] destroying the century-long peace within the Walls as Titans begin to enter the city.[14] Carla Jaeger is eaten by a smiling Titan.[9] Reiner as the Armored Titan breaches the inner gate, forcing humanity to retreat to Wall Rose.[3]

Grisha reunites with Eren and injects him with a serum which erases parts of his memory while also presumably giving him the ability to turn into a Titan. Grisha then disappears.[15]

The Reiss family proposes killing off Historia, an illegitimate child of the head of the family, to clear up the matter of inheritance. It is instead decided that she will live a humble life under the new name "Christa Lenz" in the Cadet Corps. Ymir overhears this news in a conversation between priests in the Order of the Walls, and she begins a search for Christa.[16][6]

846 The royal government enacts a culling in the form of a Wall Maria reclamation operation, sending out 250,000 civilian troops, around twenty percent of the surviving human population. Less than two hundred return alive.[3]
847 The 104th Cadet Corps begins.[3]
848 During a wilderness training exercise, Christa Lenz is nearly captured by bandits. The cadets team up to take down her captors, and they successfully rescue Christa.[17]
849 On the 34th Exterior Scouting Mission, Ilse Langnar encounters a Titan who speaks of the "Subjects of Ymir" and "Lady Ymir." She attempts to communicate with the Titan but is eventually eaten.[18]

In order to settle an argument among cadets Jean Kirschtein and Sasha Braus, Garrison Commander Dot Pyxis hosts a cook-off. Sasha presents cooked meat while Jean presents an omelette cooked by his mother, and Jean is declared the victor.[19]

Unknown Eren begins taking fighting lessons from Annie.[20]

Ilse Langnar's journal is recovered by Captain Levi and Section Commander Hange Zoë during the 49th Exterior Scouting Mission.[18]

Time Event - Year 850
One Day Before the Struggle for Trost The 104th Cadet Corps formally disbands after its completion.[20]
Year 850:

The Struggle For Trost

The Colossal Titan breaches the outer gate of Trost District, starting a Titan invasion for the first time in 5 years.[20]

The 104th Cadet Corps fight their first battle against the Titans.[21]

Eren Jaeger is swallowed by a Titan, but emerges in his Titan form and begins to slaughter many Titans.[21][15] After the evacuation of Trost is complete, Eren is taken into the custody of the Garrison.[22]

The 56th Exterior Scouting Mission is ended prematurely when Commander Erwin Smith receives news that Trost District is under attack. The Scout Regiment retreats to assist the Trost military.[15]

Commander Dot Pyxis arrives in Trost and collaborates with Armin in a plan to take back Trost with Eren's Titan.[23] Eren closes the breach with a giant boulder, saving Trost District. This marks the first time humanity has retaken land from the Titans.[24]

Time After the Struggle for Trost Event - Year 850
1 Day After nonstop cannon-fire, all but two Titans are eliminated from Trost District. These two Titans, later named Sawney and Beane, are taken into the Scout Regiment's custody for Hange Zoë's studies.[24]
2 Days The Garrison and Cadet Corps work to gather the bodies of fallen soldiers in the district to prevent a secondhand disaster epidemic. Jean Kirschtein finds Marco Bodt's corpse.[24]
3 Days Eren awakens from his coma in a prison cell. Erwin Smith and Levi tell Eren of what transpired after the struggle for Trost.[24]
5 Days Eren is held on trial before a military tribunal judged by Premier Dhalis Zachary. He is eventually given over to the custody of the Scout Regiment.[10]
6 Days Eren joins the Scout Regiment under the supervision of the Special Operations Squad, with whom he would later test his Titan abilities over the next month. Hange Zoë tells Eren of their experiments with Sawney and Beane.[25]
7 Days Annie kills Sawney and Beane, later presenting Marco's ODM gear at an inspection to throw off suspicion.[26][27]

Twenty-one cadets of the 104th Cadet Corps join the Scout Regiment. Annie Leonhart joins the Military Police Regiment in Stohess District.[26]

8 Days - 1 Month Under the supervision of the Special Operations Squad, Hange experiments with Eren's Titan abilities.[28]
1 Month:

57th Exterior Scouting Mission

On the day before the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Annie distracts herself from her anxiety by searching for Carly Stratmann, the missing daughter of a Stohess merchant.[29]

The Scout Regiment embarks on the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, departing from Calaneth District. Annie disrupts the expedition as the Female Titan, invading the right flank of the expedition to search for Eren. Commander Erwin leads her into a Forest of Giant Trees, and successfully uses special target restraining weapons to capture her.[28] However, using her shriek to attract Titans to her[30], she escapes the Scouts' capture and kills four members of the Special Operations Squad.

Eren Jaeger battles Annie in the Forest of Giant Trees, but is defeated and captured by Annie.[31] Before she can escape, Eren is rescued from her grasp by Mikasa Ackermann and Captain Levi.[32]

The Scout Regiment retreats to Calaneth District and are ordered to surrender Eren to the capital.[32]

Annie returns to her post at the Military Police Brigade headquarters in Stohess District.[27]

The Scout Regiment begins to suspect that Annie Leonhart is the Female Titan. Erwin Smith devises a plan to capture her in Stohess District.[33]

Time After the 57th Scouting Mission Event - Year 850
1 Day Scout Regiment recruits from the 104th Cadet Corps are sent into Wall Rose under the supervision of Miche Zacharius.[34]
2 Days Assault on Stohess:

In Stohess District, the Scout Regiment attempts to quietly capture Annie Leonhart, but she transforms into a Titan.[27] Eren's Titan fights Annie's Female Titan, causing great death and destruction in the district.[33]

After failing to escape the district, Annie encases herself in a crystalline substance to avoid capture.[35]

Wall Sina is damaged in the battle, revealing a Titan in the Wall.[35]

Wall Rose Invasion:

Invasion Sighted - Miche Zacharias sends out Tomas to warn Commander Erwin of the sighting of Titans that have inexplicably appeared within Wall Rose. Miche encounters the Beast Titan, who cripples him before leaving him to be killed by Titans.[34]

11 Hours After Sighting - Scout Regiment teams led by Gelgar and Nanaba rest at Utgard Castle after running into each other. They are soon attacked by Titans which can move at night, forcing the Scout Regiment veterans and recruits into a fight for survival throughout the night.[4][36]

12 Hours After Sighting - Tomas arrives in Stohess and warns Erwin Smith, who is being questioned by the Stohess District Mayor for his actions in the Stohess District raid, of the Titan sighting.

16 Hours After Sighting - The Scout Regiment members from the Stohess operation arrive in Ehrmich District en route to Utgard Castle. There, Minister Nick reveals the importance of Historia Reiss in uncovering the secret of the Walls. The Scout Regiment also receive information that point to Reiner and Bertholdt being in league with Annie Leonhart.[4]

3 Days 20 Hours After Sighting - The Beast Titan throws debris from Wall Rose at the Scout Regiment at Utgard, killing two veterans, and summons more Titans to attack Utgard before leaving Wall Rose.[36] Ymir transforms into a Titan to protect the remaining recruits at Utgard.[36]

The Stohess operatives arrive at Utgard shortly after the break of dawn, saving the recruits at Utgard. Christa Lenz reveals her true identity as Historia Reiss.[16]

28 Hours After Sighting - The Scout Regiment meet up with Hannes' Garrison squad at the top of Wall Rose, who reveals that there was no breach in Wall Rose.[13]

Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover reveal their Titan identities and mission to Eren Jaeger and subsequently assume their Titan forms as the Armored and Colossal Titans. A battle ensues on Wall Rose.[37] Eren and Ymir are captured by Reiner and Bertholdt, who escape to a Forest of Giant Trees.[38]

Five hours after the battle on Wall Rose, Commander Erwin reunites with the Scouts. They set out to rescue Eren and Ymir.[38] Reiner and Bertholdt attempt to flee to Wall Maria, but are intercepted by the Scout Regiment, who manage to rescue Eren from their grasp.[39]

The Smiling Titan appears in front of Eren and Mikasa for the first time since the Fall of Shiganshina. Hannes attacks the Titan, but is killed in front of Eren.[39] Eren unleashes the power of the Founding Titan unknowingly after striking the Smiling Titan's hand. Using this power, Eren commands nearby Titans to devour the Smiling Titan and attack Reiner and Bertholdt.[40]

The surviving soldiers of the operation retreat to Wall Rose, while Reiner and Bertholdt retreat to Shiganshina District with Ymir.[40]

Time After Eren activates the Founding Titan's power Event - Year 850
Within 1 Week Refugees from Wall Rose are sent to the underground city.[40]

Hange and Conny Springer return to Ragako to investigate the mysterious event. They realize that the Titans that had invaded Wall Rose were actually residents of Ragako.[40]

Wall Rose is declared Titan-free. Refugees from the underground are sent back to their homes after anarchy nearly breaks out.[40]

Several recruits from the 104th Cadet Corps are assigned to the new Special Operations Squad to safeguard Eren and Historia.[41]

1 Week Erwin recovers from his injuries and is informed of the events that transpired during the past week.[40]

Hange conducts Titan experiments with Eren to see if he can harden his Titan body to plug the hole in Wall Maria. Eren is unable to do so, and is also unable to summon a complete Titan form in his third transformation.[42]

Pastor Nick is tortured and killed by the First Interior Squad members Sannes and Ralph in the military barracks Hange assigned him to.[42]

Time after Pastor Nick's Death Event - Year 850
1 Day Hange learns about Nick's death and confronts Sannes and Ralph. Hange later reunites with Squad Levi and inform them of Nick's death.[42]

Nifa informs Erwin of Nick's death, who gives her a letter addressed to Levi. Erwin is then summoned to the royal capital of Mitras.[42]

Upon receiving the letter from Erwin, Levi orders everyone to leave the cabin immediately, just before Military Police raid their hideout. Levi informs them that there has been a freeze in Scout activities outside the Walls and the government wants them to hand over Eren and Historia. Hange decides to visit Erwin, lending 3 members of their squad to Levi, who prepares to head to Trost District to identify the enemy.[42]

2 Days The monarchy decides to give away 60% of the royal family's food reserves to the people of Trost, to boost the people's approval of the royal family while they carry out their plan to capture Eren and Historia.[43]

Jean and Armin, disguised themselves as Eren and Historia respectively, get kidnapped by men from the Reeves company. They are subsequently rescued by Squad Levi, who apprehend the kidnappers, including the head of the company, Dimo Reeves.[43]

Levi is ambushed by the Anti-Personnel Control Squad led by Kenny, an old adversary, and a skirmish erupts in Trost District. Despite Squad Levi's efforts, Eren and Historia are kidnapped and taken to Rod Reiss.[43]

Squad Levi strikes a deal with Dimo Reeves, who lure Sannes and Ralph into a trap set by Squad Levi. Hange and Levi torture Sannes, finding out from him that the Reiss family is the true royal family.[43]

Kenny kills Dimo Reeves for his betrayal, while his son, Flegel Reeves witnesses the scene from a hidden location.[43]

3 Days Erwin meets Commander Pyxis in private, and they talk about overthrowing the government. Afterwards, Hange arrives with the truth of the Reiss family. Before leaving, Erwin names Hange his successor as Commander of the Scouts.[44]

Erwin is framed for the murder of Dimo Reeves, and an arrest warrant issued for the Scouts. Erwin is brought to the royal capital, where he is violently interrogated by a member of the royal assembly.[44]

Hange saves Flegel Reeves from his MP pursuers, and persuades him to expose the truth of his father's murder. Flegel tricks the MPs into revealing the truth about Dimo Reeves' murder in front of the inhabitants of Trost. Afterwards, Flegel convinces the journalist Roy to print the truth in their newspaper.[45]

4 Days The royal government sentences Erwin to death for violating Clause 6 of the Charter for Humanity. As Erwin is being taken to the gallows, Anka brings news that Wall Rose has been breached. The assembly members order Nile Dawk and the other MPs to close the gates of Wall Sina to prevent refugees from flooding in. Nile decides to disobey the order just as Premier Dhalis Zachary enters the room with a contingent of soldiers, informing those present that the breach was a false alarm. After Pyxis reveals it had been a test to see the royal government's suitability to lead, he and Zachary arrest the royal assembly members in a coup d'état.[46]

Squad Levi captures Marlo and Hitch, who are part of the MP contingent tasked with searching for the Scouts who are still on the run. They propose to cooperate, and Levi accepts their help after they successfully pass a test of loyalty from Jean. Using their intelligence, Squad Levi raids the least heavily guarded MP outpost and capture a man from the Interior Police.[45] While interrogating him, they are found by Hange and Mobilt, who inform them that the coup was a success and the Scouts cleared of all charges. They promptly set off for the Reiss chapel, where they believe Eren and Historia are located.[46]

5 Days In the cave underneath the Reiss chapel, Rod and Historia place their hands on a chained Eren's back, triggering past memories from five years ago. Eren learns that his father, Grisha, had stolen the Titan power of the Reiss family from Historia's sister Frieda and murdered all their members, with only Rod managing to escape. Grisha had then injected Eren with a Titan serum, turning Eren into a Titan and eating his dad resulting in Eren inheriting his Titan Powers.[47]

Pyxis tells Erwin that all the nobles they captured confirmed that the Reiss family had the power to erase the memories of the people, which could potentially undermine everything they have accomplished. Erwin quickly forms a rescue party and heads towards the Reiss chapel.[47]

Squad Levi arrives at the Reiss chapel at night. They clash with Kenny Ackermann and his squad in the cave underneath.[47]

Historia refuses Rod's offer of reclaiming the Founding Titan, choosing instead to free Eren. Rod Reiss drinks from the Titan serum shattered by Historia, becoming an enormous Mindless Titan.[48]

Eren ingests a serum labeled "armor" from Rod's bag, creating a hardened Titan for the first time, which he uses to shield Squad Levi from the collapsing cavern.[49]

Erwin Smith reunites with Squad Levi, and they head to Orvud to devise a method of defeating Rod Reiss, who is advancing on Orvud District.[49]

6 Days With the combined efforts of the Garrison, Eren, and Squad Levi, Rod Reiss' Titan is defeated at Orvud District, with Historia landing the killing blow. Before a crowd of the District's citizens, Historia declares herself to be the true ruler of the Walls.[50]

A severely injured Kenny Ackermann is found by Levi outside of the collapsed cavern. He reveals that he is Levi's uncle, and gives Levi a Titan injection he stole from Rod, before dying.[51]

Time after Historia's coronation Event - Year 850
Under 2 Months The Beast Titan defeats Reiner's Armored Titan in Shiganshina, therefore deciding that they and Bertholdt will wait in the District to ambush the Scouts, in hopes of regaining the Coordinate.[51]

The nobles from the Assembly are imprisoned and members of the Military take their places.[52]

Queen Historia brings many orphans from the Underground to the surface world to reside in her newly founded orphanage.[52]

Eren's new hardening ability is used to create the Executioner from Hell where Trost's outer gate once stood, which begins to clear Titans from Wall Maria.[52]

The Scout Regiment's increased popularity causes many young soldiers to enlist or reassign.[52]

Squad Levi visits Keith Sadies to learn of his involvement with Grisha Jaeger. Keith tells them of his past with Grisha.[52]

A council of military leaders decides that Levi Ackermann should be entrusted with Kenny's Titan serum.[53]

2 Months The Scout Regiment departs for Shiganshina District from Trost, receiving a hero's send off.[53]
Year 850: The Battle of Shiganshina District Erwin Smith leads over one hundred soldiers of the Scout Regiment on an expedition to Shiganshina under the cover of night. The Scout Regiment arrive in Shiganshina at dawn. Eren uses his hardening ability to seal the breach in the outer gate.[54]

Before the inner gate can be sealed, Zeke as the Beast Titan traps the Scout Regiment in Shiganshina with a Titan army, starting a battle between the Warriors and the Scout Regiment.[54]

Eren and Reiner battle in their Titan forms in Shiganshina. During the battle, the Scout Regiment attacks Reiner with the recently developed Thunder Spears, blowing Reiner's head off.[55]

Bertholdt transforms into the Colossal Titan above Shiganshina, killing most of Hange's squad in the explosive energy of the transformation.[56]

The Beast Titan bombards the Scouts to the north with a barrage of stones and boulders. Erwin Smith leads a last ditch frontal charge into the line of fire as a distraction[57], which results in the complete annihilation of the cavalry, save for one soldier by the name of Floch.[58]

Levi successfully ambushes and defeats the Beast Titan, cutting Zeke out of its nape. Before Levi can kill him, Zeke is rescued by the Cart Titan, and the two flee towards Shiganshina.[58]

Hange and Squad Levi attack the regenerated Armored Titan. They defeat it with Thunder Spears, with Mikasa landing the finishing blow that blows Reiner out of its nape.[58]

Armin Arlelt sacrifices himself in a diversionary attack against the Colossal Titan, which Eren defeats after leaving his Titan form, cutting Bertholdt out of its nape.[58]

Reiner tells Hange to pass a letter from Ymir to Historia, shortly before Zeke and Pieck arrive to rescue him. The three Warriors flee Shiganshina district.[59]

Both Armin and Erwin are found to be alive but on the brink of death, creating a difficult choice as to who should be saved with the Titan serum held by Levi. Ultimately it is decided by Levi that Armin will be given the serum. Armin, in his new Titan form, eats Bertholdt Hoover, and Erwin Smith dies.[59]

Eren, Mikasa, Levi, and Hange investigate the basement of the Jaeger household, where they discover three books left by Grisha detailing his past in Marley and his knowledge of the Eldian-Marleyan conflict.[60][1]

Time After The Battle Of Shiganshina Event
A Few Days Eren and Mikasa are detained for assaulting their superiors. In his dreams, Eren begins to see his father's memories of his arrival at Paradis Island and realizes that Dina was the Titan that killed his mother.[1]

Shortly after the return of the Scout Regiment, Queen Historia arrives in Trost District and reads Ymir's letter. Eren and Mikasa are released from their imprisonment early with Commander-in-Chief Dhalis Zachary's approval, and a meeting is held to discuss the findings from the basement. Eren realizes a loophole in the First King's will involving touching a royal-blooded Titan as he did with Dina, but chooses not to speak of it out of concern for Historia's fate. The meeting concludes with the decision to make the basement revelations public knowledge.[61][61]

The nine survivors of the battle of Shiganshina District are honored in ceremony by Queen Historia.[62]

Under A Year Upon the Warriors' return to Marley, the government postpones their mission to obtain the Founding Titan. When the loss of two Titans becomes publicly known, the Mid-East Allied Forces declare war on Marley.[63]

Near the end of the winter months, it is announced that Wall Maria has been made completely Titan-free. Due to the large influx of Titans over the course of five years, very few Titans remain beyond the Walls on Paradis Island.[62]

Year Event
Unknown Ymir is restrained and eaten by Galliard, who inherits her Jaw Titan.
851 One year after the Battle of Trost, Eldian citizens begin to repopulate Shiganshina District. The Scout Regiment sets out beyond Wall Maria for the first time in six years, reaching the borderline wall and the shores of the ocean.[62]

Marley Mid-East War

Marley slowly gains control over the seas in its war with the Mid-East Allied Forces, though half of the outdated navy is lost through the course of the war.

Meanwhile, the Allies develop anti-Titan artillery to gain a significant advantage on land conflicts.

Over the course of three years, 32 scouting ships are sent from Marley to Paradis Island. None of the ships return.

Marley's war with the Mid-East Allied Forces culminates at Fort Slava, a coastal fortress. While the Warriors under Marleyan command besiege the fort, Zeke uses his Beast Titan's power to drop parachuting Eldians over Fort Slava, turning them into Titans as an airstrike. Reiner's Armored Titan destroys most of the anti-Titan artillery present at Fort Slava, and the Beast Titan tosses artillery rounds at the nearby Mid-East fleet, destroying it. The result of this battle brings an end to the Marley Mid-East War.
